How Music Has Impacted The Chee-Weez Band Members' Life

If you could describe a Chee Weez concert in three words to someone who has never seen a Chee Weez show, what three words would you use to describe it?

Dan: “Real. Big. Party.”

What song reminds you of home?

Joey: “Where the Streets Have No Name by U2 reminds me of growing up.”

Who are some of your musical influences?

Joey: “U2”

Dan: “Right now it’s a band called Nothing More. Growing up it was Elton John, me being a piano player.”

Brandon: “Otis Redding, all day every day.”

Why do you think music is so important to the people and culture of New Orleans?

Brandon: “It has the ability to bring people from different places of life together. It’s a common denominator, a universal language.”

What is the greatest musical moment The Chee Weez have had playing music?

Joey: “The best moment wasn’t even on stage, but when we were riding on the float in Endymion parade with Kid Rock, who was the Grand Marshal. We sang Cowboy and several other songs with him riding down St. Charles Avenue with thousands of people, and it was such a fun time. Then we entered the Superdome playing Dan’s favorite song, Old Time Rock and Roll. The doors kicked open, there were 15,000 people, Kid Rock is singing, bombs were exploding…it was a great feeling!”

How has music gotten you through sorrowful, hard or tough times through life?

Dan: “Music has always been an outlet for us. Music is peaceful and everyone has a different musical outlet that they go to when they are in a certain mindset.”

Pick your poison; CDs, Vinyls, MP3s, or Online Streaming Services?

“Online Streaming. Spotify all day, it’s so convenient.”

If you had to get up and sing karaoke for us, what would be the song of choice?

Dan: “Let’s pick each other’s…Joey would sing Brown Eyed Girl.”

Joey: “Brandon would sing Marvin Gaye. Which Marvin Gaye song?

Brandon: “That’s pretty accurate…What’s Going On.”

Brandon: Dan would sing Jenny by Nothing More.

Joey: “I wouldn’t sing Brown Eyed Girl by the way…”
